Qualifications
Definition and Minimum Qualifications for Academic Ranks
In addition to fulfilling the general criteria for the evaluation of faculty members described in the following section, faculty member must meet specific requirements for each rank in order to be appointed to or promoted to that rank. A statement of these qualifications follows.
The following is description of requirements for each rank.
Instructor
An appointee to this rank must:
- Have a master\'s degree in the required specialization from a university accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Have a sound teaching record.
Assistant Professor
An appointee to this rank must:
- Have a doctorate degree in the discipline from a university accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Have a sound record of teaching, research and community services.
- Have demonstrated potential for professional growth in his/her field..
Associate Professor
An appointee to this rank must:
- Have a doctorate degree in the discipline from a university accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Have a sound record of teaching, research and community services.
- Show potential for becoming a scholar or artist of distinction, and have demonstrated professional recognition and growth.
- The faculty member must have had at least five years of full-time teaching experience in a college or university in the rank of assistant professor.
- Have been promoted to the rank of associate professor, in a college or university where the promotion regulations are comparable to those of AU.
Professor
An appointee to this rank must:
- Have a doctorate or the highest degree customary in the discipline and have achieved all of the qualifications for Associate Professor.
- Have achieved a record of continuing distinction in scholarship or creative endeavors in the field.
- Have demonstrated excellent teaching ability and shown continuing active engagement with students in and outside the classroom.
- Have a good record of continuing evidence of relevant and effective professional service and demonstrated ability for continuing achievement.
- Have had at least ten years of full-time teaching experience in a college or university, including at least five of those years in the rank of associate professor.
